A Brahman guest is like a fire that comes to a household. (Therefore, such a guest is to be welcomed. The Brahmanas consituted the first of the four castes. Their duties were to act as priests, perform sacrifices, study and pray. Nachiketa was a Brahman.) The feet of such a guest should be washed with water so that peace may descend on the household. O Yama! Bring water so that Nachiketa's Feet may be washed.
